The Charity Clothes Market Made Over 8,000 CZK

In the middle of August, our Social zone has transformed into a fashion shop for one day. However, there were four important things that made it different than a regular shop in Vaňkovka:

1.       All the shop-assistants were our colleagues

2.       All the clothes and accessories were donated by our colleagues

3.       All the prices were more than reasonable

4.       All the money raised was used for a good thing

The event was organized by three of our colleagues from the UK Central Finance department—Petra, Lucie, and Veronika. We asked them a few questions about the event:

How did you come up with the idea?
About two months ago, talking over a cup of coffee, it became clear that the three of us deal with the same “girls’ issue”: The abundance of clothes which do not fit anymore due to too many doughnuts or super healthy detox summer salads. Amid these clothing crises, an idea of charity clothes market emerged. Get rid of your old clothes and help to support a charity which is closest to your heart.

Why have you decided to support the Blue life organization (Oceán dětem)?
Our planet is literally drowning in plastic waste. Rivers and oceans are the places where the plastic pollution is most visible. A truck full of plastic is dumped into the oceans every minute. If nothing is done, there will be more plastic waste in the ocean than the fish. The Blue life (Oceán dětem) project aims to protect marine turtles and other marine animals from the plastic waste and regularly clean not only the beaches but also the underwater world.

Have you organized it solely on your own?

The clothes charity market would not be possible without the contribution of others. We borrowed almost all clothes racks and hangers from another company, where our friends have done a similar clothes market before. The two indoor screens for creating a private changing space were brought from HR SSC team and hangers collected throughout the building.

How did the whole day go?

The most hectic moment was Thursday morning when most of the clothes were contributed and numerous people came to shop. We were a little bit anxious as we did not know if we were going to have enough clothes to sell. But the donations exceeded our expectations. We were also touched by seeing people not buying anything but still chipping in.

We managed to collect 8,230 CZK at the market and we would like, once again, to thank all the donors as well as shoppers. There were still some clothes left and we have donated them to another charity clothes market organized externally by one of our colleagues.
