Hei to Norway

There are many ways how you can improve your skills, learn new activities, change the routine, reach your career goals and make your life more interesting, exciting and challenging. The best way is to grab a chance offered by our international working environment and go to work for some time abroad.

Six months ago, I had a great opportunity to go for a Secondment to Finance department in Elkjøp Nordic headquarters based in Lørenskog – a town close to Oslo. Since my working tasks in Dixons Carphone have always been closely connected to Nordic business I was very pleased to get this chance to meet our Nordic colleagues personally, deepen my finance knowledge and also get to know better the Scandinavian life and culture.

I was happy to spend exciting half year in Norway! It gave me not just wider range of knowledge and as well as the opportunity to be involved in several important projects, but also memorable life experience.

It was a tough time when the Crosslinks project was about to go life and there were many demanding tasks have to be finished within the short time. But working hard and being positive, everything can be achieved and we managed to successfully close all the reconciliations as well as to agree on starting the production environment as planned. Work in Elkjøp finance department is run in a very professional way, there is a high focus on quality results, detailed analysis and control. Luckily, once I am back in Brno I still keep working within Nordic business and continue close cooperation with everyone from the Oslo office.

Apart from interesting job, there were also other things to do in Norway. I spent time exploring Oslo city and its surroundings. There were several amazing weekends spent sightseeing the most well-known places like Vigeland’s park with fascinating statues, the modern Opera house, the famous Holmenkollen ski jump and the large sea ports. We managed the trips to the nearby islands to see wonderful fjords and enjoy breathtaking nature. Norwegian people are friendly, open to different cultures. They are big sports fans. They also love spending time with their families and when the weather is nice they all go outside for barbeques on the beach, gardens or in the town parks having fun with friends on the grass.

My sincere thanks to all colleagues from the Norwegian office. It was amazing time and I am really glad for learning so much, meeting all of you and working in such a nice and friendly environment.
