What will your job be about?

  • Implementation and maintenance of multiple business critical Oracle and other technology databases
  • Provide third line technical support for production databases and recommend and implement preventative measures to maintain the health of the system
  • Assisting with implementation activities for other Oracle databases for all systems in the landscape
  • Working with project and support teams to deliver database designs, new implementations and changes.
  • Planning and executing upgrades of database software
  • Logical and physical data modeling and advice to developers on how to optimize their use of the database
  • Additionally the job holder may be required to carry out any of the following:

o Ensure backup and recovery utilities are set up and working

o Ensure that database security is set up and meets business/legal requirements

o Establish and maintain the database standards for all installations & patching, including naming standards

o Develop tools to assist with database monitoring and tuning – recommend third party tools where appropriate

o Capacity management of Oracle databases

How do we imagine you?

  • Strong IT background
  • At least 2 years experience of Oracle database administration
  • Knowledge of RMAN, Dataguard, RAC, Oracle partitioning
  • Knowledge of SQL queries and PL/SQL procedures
  • Unix and Linux basic knowledge
  • Advanced knowledge of scripting language
  • Problem solving and investigation: responsible for investigating issues and providing timely feedback and solutions
  • ITIL foundation knowledge (familiarity with the notion of change, incident & problem management)
  • Knowledge of DB monitoring systems
  • Experience with the transition projects
  • Good English (B2 level)
  • A flexible and proactive approach to work, team player ethos
  • The ability to multitask, to plan own workload and work under pressure, results driven approach
  • Experience of working with teams in multiple countries – multicultural environment
  • Willingness to be part of a 24x7 on-call support rota
  • Willingness to learn new things and to contribute to new processes and tools setup
  • A proven track record of supporting large scale Oracle deployments

Nice to have skills:

  • Retail experience
  • Knowledge of MS SQL and Open Source database technologies (MySQL, PostgreSQL etc.)
  • Good knowledge of operating systems across Wintel, Unix and Data Warehousing platforms
  • Ability to research and keep up to date with database technology
